TDR technique has been intensively applied around the world to measure volumetric soil water content. Although its good results, this system is rather expensive. Other systems have been developed to measure soil dielectric constant or electric potential under lower cost conditions. ECHO system has been used on some soil conditions with good results. For tropical soils conditions, there is no investigation about its application. This work was carried out to evaluate TDR and ECHO applications on a tropical soil Typic Paleudalf, which presents 73% of clay, commonly found at the Northeast region of Paraná, Brazil, and on a “washed sand” material. Mathematic models were fit, by linear regression analyses, to describe relations between soil volumetric water... |

Generally, standard lysimeters include a lever-load cell scale, which has become expensive compared to new electronic equipment available for experimental purposes. Currently, lysimeters containing weighing bars with up to 4 load cells are economically feasible. This goal of this study was to present the construction and calibration of four weighing lysimeters built using two rectangular tanks, with a surface area of 1.35 m2 (1 m by 1.35 m) and a depth of 1.5 m, loaded on two weighing bars. Each bar had two high accuracy loading cells connected to a junction box and a datalogger by a coaxial cable. Calibration of each lysimeter was performed after field installation. The results showed a linear response (R2 > 0.9999) of electric signal (mV) to mass... |

This work aimed at adjusting the Angstron’s equation coefficients, on monthly and annual basis, to the region of Palotina (24º17'S, 53º50'30'' W and 333m of altitude), Paraná, Brazil. The purpose was to determine the global solar radiation on a daily basis. Climatic data of global solar radiation and total daily sunshine, from 1982 to 2002 were used to fit the equation. Lower values (7,82MJ m-2) of global solar radiation were verified at months with north solar declination and higher values (22,07MJ m-2) at months with south solar declination, with annual mean value of 14,27MJ m-2. The radiation that reached the atmosphere top presented similar annual trend, with a lowest value of 21,58MJ m-2 on June 24th and highest value of 44,51MJ m-2 on January 1st.... |
